Welcome to my blog site.
I aim to make it as useful to people as possible. The site will continue to be developed and create a useful online resource for social entrepreneurs and other third sector managers.
I’m Dave Lane, and have spent the majority [25 years] of my career working within the not for personal profit sector.
I began working in the sector as a volunteer, leading and directing St. Paul’s Youth Theatre. This theatre group was a participatory theatre group based in inner city Birmingham and created excellent community plays and issue based drama which toured schools every year.
Following this I took up a paid position at St. Paul’s whilst continuing to run the youth theatre as a volunteer. Through the years I developed many services and became a senior staff member heading up a large department running employment training programmes, small social enterprises and activities for young people who were Not in Education or Employment.
I moved on from St. Paul’s to take up my current position of Operations Manager at The Initiative for Social entrepreneurs. This role involves managing a team of business support professionals, delivering and managing large and small projects, consultancy support for VCO’s and public sector departments etc.
I am a SFEDI qualified Business Adviser with Social Enterprise as my specialist area. In addition I have undertaken master classes in Social Return on Investment and Social accounting and Auditing.
My passion is to support enterprises develop to do ‘good’ business!
